The cap separates the wind stream as it flows over the cap, while the rotating hood is kept in proper position (relative to the wind) by the wind vane. This product does not include a built-in bird screen. We recommend using Bostik high temp stainless anti-seize on the rotating bracket and cleaning creosote buildup to ensure cap functions correctly and is able to rotate without issues, this should be done annually or else as needed.
